SSR Quarter 1 Book Review
My first quarter SSR book is a young adult novel called Mosquitoland. Written by David Arnold, The book has a total of 342 pages. after Mary Iris Malones(mim) parents go through a divorce, she is forced to leave her hometown and go live with her dad. Every day she has to wake up to a step-mom that makes her feel unwelcome. After finding out that her biological mother is sick, she decides to leave her house without notice. As she travels 947 miles from Jackson Mississippi, to Cleveland, Ohio, She meets all sorts of people and has to deal with her own problems, boy relationships, and her own perspective on life. As she gets on the greyhound bus, she realizes that her trip may not be so easy. Apart from the whole story, the reader is able to get a close look in the mind of Mim. Every action has a thought and is soon to be realized that she is not the average girl. She has a lot of ideas in her head that she has to constantly be reminded about. I didn't really feel connected with the character, but I felt very sympathetic about her many times in the book. Some major plot point become more predictable as you read the book, but that didn't make me lose my interest on the book. I think the Author did a great job in creating this book and i would definitely recommend it to someone who wants to cry like 100%.

Wow, Vic. This book sounds very saddening :(. Why did the author name it "Mosquitoland" though? It sounds like her life is miserable due to all of these events happening back to back. She must feel overwhelmed, and it must be saddening to read. I'd cry, foreal foreal.
ReplyDeleteYour review of the book now makes me want to read it! I cannot relate to the life experiences the character has, but it still seems like a story everyone on some level can connect to
