The Selection by Kierra Cass

The book I chose to write about for our 1st quarter ssr is called The Selection by Kierra Cass. The book is around the 320 page range and is the first in a five book series. It’s a young adult novel that follows a love triangle storyline. The story mainly focuses on the life of a 17 year old girl named America who is being pressured by her family and boyfriend to join the selection in hopes of her living a better life than they were given.The selection is a process girls from the ages 16-20 go through if they wish to be chosen by Max Schreave who happens to be a prince coming of age. This is a once in a life time opportunity for them to change the life they were destined to from the day they were born because in their country they have castes. Castes determine what your jobs are and the lower your caste is the less money you receive. America is caste 5 whilst her boyfriend Aspen is a caste below her. For most girls they can’t wait to see if they get selected, but for America it’s something she dreads even applying for. America knows applying and making it to the royal palace is great for family because they’re guaranteed a better life. However, she’s not fond of the idea of competing for a crown she doesn’t want.
I recommend this book because it’s keeps you involved and wondering what will happen next. There’s never a dull moment. The only thing that I found in this book slightly negative was the lack of content having to do with troublesome characters that show up later on in the book.
