It's summer in the 1950's in Bay City, California, where all the stars & glamour reside in nearby Hollywood. The story starts off in the office of Philip Marlowe, a private detective with slow business till he meets his next potential, intriguing client, a "seductive young heiress", Clare Cavendish. A lost lover has led her to request Marlowe's help, a hunt for a man that goes by Nico Peterson. With a background in the perfume business, it's best to go to a private eye instead of the locals to avoid a scandal, as well as any marital problems of course. In the first few chapters, it is known that Peterson was a victim of the hit and run, almost 2 months ago. Yet Cavendish recalls seeing him in the streets just about a week ago. The investigation continues on to find out whether or not Nico Peterson is deceased or seen.
The setting and time that this book takes place in is already something that caught me. A classic mystery in the time where Hollywood hits a peak. The author uses imagery to describe the characters, to start off the context with descriptive yet subtle scenes such as "It was one of those Tuesday afternoons when you wonder if the earth has stopped revolving." I would recommend this book to anyone who just loves a crime story, a mystery with stars, fame, glory, and gore.
From what you have written it seems as if it's a old timey novel. This book also seems to be mysterious due to the investigation. This however didn't explain who's the main character and how it relates to people.
